AU2023 Sierra Ranch 2396 Blue Bar Splash Cock
~ 2023 Late Hatch 'Mystery Cock' ~ Unknown Parentage
'SR 2396' is a strong handling 'Mystery Cock' that Steve Sterchi bred as a late hatch in 2023. He was one of the last few birds that Steve banded that year but unfortunately I have never been able to find his parentage in the breeding records. I do know that at that time Steve only had 4 of 5 pairs of the absolute best birds together to breed birds for stock. So he was obviously bred for a reason.
I did have 'SR 2396' DNA tested late last Spring against some feathers from '1755 - Torpedo' and a couple other top breeders and he did not come back as related to 'Torpedo' or 'Missil'. Feanix Bio who I had him tested with has since ceased Pigeon DNA tests..........so at this point with the vast majority of the birds from Steve's sale all over the country it's unlikely I'll ever be able to pin down his parentage.
That said Duane Gragg and I suspect he may be off Duane's 'Greek Hen' who is one of Duane's all time best hens and was at Steve's loft during this time period. Steve used to mate her to some of his best cocks. He looks like her and some of the other Greek Connection birds. When I had him DNA tested though I did not send any feathers off the Greek Hen to Feanix Bio. That may be something still possible in the future.
He is for sale with a low starting bid as he is too nice of a bird to just outright give away. If you don't mind not having a pedigree the winning bidder should be getting a very nice bird from the late Steve Sterchi of Sierra Ranch.
'SR 2396' is medium in size and very strong with nice muscle and feather. He has bigger wings with wider flights. He is a very spunky high character bird that really does not like to be held. Also has nice bright orange eyes. See Youtube Video for Handling
