Bob Tavares – Quiet Champion

Bob Tavares has done you a great favor here with his donation of a special, matched pair to benefit the SCM Club.

Quiet, long-term, champion performance – that’s Bob Tavares – the long-time champion I’ve followed since his many successes in the tough New England region and now in Georgia.  Zoned out of flying now, Bob’s small breeding loft of only 12 pairs is one to beat throughout the country where his five different partners fly birds for him.

BBH - "Beauty” – 5 Years a Racer, Now a Proven Breeder!

Beauty, this BBH reminds me of my 2013 AU Champion hen that, because of her large heart and super healthy body systems from a two-year race career, just keeps laying the Golden Eggs.

Bob says, “I have a small loft, so my choices are limited.   I bred #68 for a partner of mine in Southern Georgia before I got her back for breeding.  She flew for five years, winning diplomas at every station, 100 to 600 miles

She has bred several outstanding racers so I am sending a proven breeder to this auction.  She is good for another couple of years.  Younger birds might seem more attractive, but they are not proven, on the road or for breeding as this wonderful hen.”

And Beauty has that “Top Performance Blood close in in her pedigree!” – the wisdom of the Greats in the Sport.  Look carefully at the supreme homing instinct in Beauty’s Sire, “De Unstoppable”; and then the genetic power Bob bred from De Unstoppable to “Mistress” with Blood that can thrive in the Sport in the demanding East Asia – a rigor only matched by Germany.

DkCC “Gordie” - 100-600 Miles Blood

Look at Gordie’s Sire, “Bob’s Money Man” – “family … thousands of races / diplomas”, and “this cross excels at 100 – 600 Miles”.  But don’t miss why Gordie’s Sire is so prepotent: his Dam “Victory Girl” was an “only Day Bird with a 1st 500”.  See Gene Yoes’ recent one-page essay in the Racing Pigeon Digest on the critical importance of “breakaway” performance in your birds, including the “Only Day Bird” type.  That's the genetics Gordie brings to this mating.

I love the ‘look’ of the DkCC Gordie.  He has the look Frank McLaughlin says is one of very few traits key to a great breeding cock: he’s “watching you”.  Secondly, I love his “ready to go” crouch –  it says he’s ready for any race conditions; plus his “owl face and eyes” which many top breeders look for.  Most important to me is the depth of performance in the tough, New England Opens in Gordie’s Blood.  The greater New England area, reaching out far around Boston hosts some of the greatest competitions in the country: and “sorts the wheat from the chaff”.
