AU 22 SKY 176 RED CHECK COCK - This is a 2023 pigeon
These are the best Original Janssens to come to this country.
This is a super nice pigeon I would be keeping for myself if I weren't moving.
In the spring of 2002 I had the pleasure of visiting the home of Louis Janssen with my friend Henk Kuijlaars. It was quite an experience to actually be sitting in his home and admiring his pigeons. At 88 years of age Louis was the only brother still alive. He would only sit in his chair while the other 4 seats remained vacant . These were those used by his three brothers and his sister. He was very young for his age. He would go into his loft and bring out one bird at a time for Henk and I to handle. Louie would handle them as if they were his children. He continued to clean his loft himself daily. There was a red check cock which Henk and I fell in love with. Henk was very familiar with this cock and many visitors wanted to purchase him (Including Campbell Strange).
Henk, before becoming a famous pigeon photographer, was a painter. He became very good friends with Louis (and the brothers) when he painted their house many years ago. I asked Henk to ask Louis if I could purchase some young birds, but there were none available. So we finished our visit and headed north out of Arendonk towards the Netherlands. Ten minutes out of town I said "Henk go back and talk to Louis!". So he turned the car around and after a 15 minute conversation Louis agreed to sell me his last round off this famous cock. However Henk would have to pick the birds up at 2 weeks of age and raise them himself. I was fortunate to purchase two absolutely gorgeous Blue check cocks and a Red check from "The Vos".
In May of 2012 the last 26 Janssen pigeons were auctioned. The average price was $24,000 each. The brother to my red check hen Louie called "Late Vos Van 2004" as well as his son "Schone Vos".There have been many winners bred from these 3 prize birds including a daughter who bred the Gulf Coast Classic Winner and $20,000. There are no better pigeons anywhere. There are no more direct Janssens. So I ask you, how direct are you Janssens? If you want a Janssen bred directly from the source, if for no other reason than nostalgia, here is your chance!
